They call him “The Cuban Johnny Depp” though he isn’t an actor.His curriculum is impressive. Alter graduating with honours in English Language, he taught English Literature in Cuba and Nicaragua, presented two musical shows in English for Radio Havana Cuba and covered expresident Jimmy Carter’s visit to Cuba as producer-editor-cameraman for CNN. He has been a field producer for National Public Radio and the Chicago Tribune and head of sound and music for The Havana Company, a Canadian documentary making company.
His photos have appeared in various reviews and catalogues. He has translated two anthologies of Maori literature. He supervised the production of Cuban Essentials, a collection of Cuban music published in New York by Ultra Records.
As director, editor or associate producer of independent film, his documentary and fiction shorts, Für Maria, The Altar of the Cross and Boxers and Ballerinas have been prize-winners at Huelva, Gibara’s Low Budget and San José festivals. His documentary on Cuban singer/songwriter Pedro Luis Ferrer’s international tour is currently in post-production.
